The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) has posted a video news. The video captures the excitement of a special ribbon-cutting event held today (June 12) for the opening of the $3.6 million renovated City of Battle Creek Intermodal Transportation Center. The center serves Amtrak rail passengers, Amtrak Thruway Connection passengers on Indian Trails motor coaches, and Greyhound intercity bus riders. The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will suspend work and reopen lanes on major state highways in south-central Michigan, including I-94 in Jackson County and M-50 in Lenawee County, for the Quicken Loans 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Michigan International Speedway (MIS). The first big race of the season at MIS will be held on Sunday, June 17. Overall, work on most state roads in counties surrounding MIS, which is located in Brooklyn in Jackson County, will be suspended from 7 a.m. Thursday, June 14, until 7 a.m. Tuesday, June 19. However, several MDOT projects still will have restrictions in place over race weekend and MDOT urges motorists to drive with caution in work zones. MDOT will begin repairs to the Larned Street overpass above I-375 the week of June 4, including extensive repair to the structural supports under the overpass. All work on this $490,000 investment is scheduled to be completed by Labor Day. In order to safely complete the repair work, crews will close the right lane of northbound I-375 under Larned Street. The lane closure is needed in order for crews to install additional temporary supports while making the necessary repairs. During the repairs, southbound I-375 will have intermittent single-lane closures as needed. Bridge crews will repair structural supports under the overpass. To help make travel easier, the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is lifting traffic restrictions on 94 of 132 projects statewide during the Memorial Day holiday weekend. “Memorial Day weekend begins the busy summer travel season in Michigan,” said State Transportation Director Kirk T. Steudle. “Let’s make sure everyone gets to their destination and home safely. Remember to buckle up, put your cell phone down, and be extra cautious in construction zones.” The following 38 work zones will remain active, or have lane restrictions, during the Memorial Day weekend.
