The Department of Transportation (DelDOT) wishes to advise motorists that removal of the old Indian River Inlet Bridge and surrounding abutments is scheduled to occur this summer. The entire process is expected to take 8-10 weeks and has already begun. Initially the removal consists of sawcutting and removing the bridge railing and deck. Bridge beams and the concrete piers will be removed later this summer using a mechanical technique that is both environmentally sensitive and minimally impactive to the surroundings. Due to environmental issues, explosives will not be used to remove the old bridge structure. Throughout the demolition, contractor will be taking steps to maintain the safety of the traveling public, pedestrians and motorists while continuing to maintain access to the park facilities and the waterways. The Department of Transportation (DelDOT) welcomes fans to the 2012 NASCAR Race Series at the Dover International Speedway beginning on Friday, June 1 for the “Lucas Oil 200″ NASCAR Camping World Truck Series; Saturday, June 2 for the “5-hour ENERGY 200″ NASCAR Nationwide Series; and Sunday, for the “Dover 400″ NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. The Dover International Speedway’s main entrance on Route 13 will be CLOSED for all southbound traffic when parking at the Dover International Speedway is filled. When the race is concluded on Sunday afternoon, Leipsic Road will also be CLOSED to through traffic. This will allow traffic to immediately exit onto Route 13 and traffic from Lot 2 Parking to exit directly to Leipsic Road. A designated exit route for the Saturday and Sunday races have been established through the cooperation of many groups including the Towne Point Civic Association. Vehicles parked in Lot 1 will be permitted to exit to Buckson Drive onto Townsend Boulevard (next to K-Mart) and the signalized intersection. For the first time in several years, all major routes to Delaware’s beaches will be free of construction. According to officials from The Department of Transportation (DelDOT), motorists will have a much easier time accessing Delaware’s renowned resort beaches this summer season. There will be no lane closures, or major construction on any of the major beach routes this Memorial Day Weekend, throughout Sussex County. Major work on the vital east – west connection to Fenwick Island via Route 54 is complete, with all lanes open to traffic. Earlier this week, all four lanes on the new Indian River Inlet Bridge opened to traffic, ending a multi-year project that involved numerous lane closures, and shifting traffic patterns. The pedestrian walkway is scheduled to open by Friday. Throughout the summer, work will continue in New Castle County, on the I-95 and Route 1 interchange, but no construction continue
