The state Department of Transportation (DOT) launched the H-1 Freeway PM Contra flow Project in a groundbreaking ceremony earlier today. The project will create a dedicated Zipper Lane in the westbound direction for weekday afternoon rush-hours to provide extra capacity on the H-1 Freeway between Pearl Harbor, near the Radford Drive Overpass, and Waikele, over a distance of approximately 7.2-miles. The dedicated lane will benefit not only motorists traveling to Waikele and points west during afternoon peak traffic, but all westbound freeway motorists, by removing contraflow vehicles from the normal traffic lanes. “The time saved for commuters translates directly into an improved quality of life, as motorists can get home to their families faster and save money on gas,” said DOT Director Glenn Okimoto. “Every vehicle that uses continue

Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam and Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) Commissioner John Schroer announced today the award of a $756,846 transportation enhancement grant to the town of Collierville for Phase I of the Center Connect Project. Phase I of the Center Connect Project includes the creation of a gateway entrance corridor from US 72/SR 86 to Collierville’s historic downtown area and connects several existing greenways. Phase I covers the intersection of Center Street and South Rowlett to the intersection of South Street. The project features shared lanes for bicyclists, new crosswalks, landscaping, and sidewalks. Flowering trees and shrubs will also be planted in the area, and new park benches and bicycle racks will be installed.
