Teen Dies in Butte Crash & Boating Accident



A teenaged driver has died after being rushed to the hospital Wednesday following a crash on the Old Glenn Highway. According to Alaska State Troopers, the crash between a 2002 Toyota Camry and a 1999 Kenworth dump truck was reported at 12:16 p.m. at Bondeburg Loop and Old Glenn Highway. Troopers say Christa E. Russell, 16, of Palmer, was driving the Camry, trying to cross the Old Glenn to head eastbound when the dump truck hit her. “Russell was flown to Mat-Su Regional (Medical Center) by Life Med Alaska helicopter where she succumbed to her injuries,” troopers report. Two men visiting Alaska from out of state drowned on Lake Louise, near Glennallen, Friday, according to the Alaska State Troopers. The men were fishing in a 14-foot rented boat when they went to restart the motor, said troopers spokesman Tim DeSpain. “The boat was already in gear and moved forward,” he said. Both ended up in the water, DeSpain said. The first man fell in, he said, but it’s unclear whether the second man got in or fell in. Another boat saw them and came by to help, but by the time the men were brought to shore it was too late, DeSpain said. Authorities are investigating the death of a Georgetown, Texas, man who died kayaking on Mendenhall Lake in Juneau. Erin Uloth, a spokeswoman for the Tongass National Forest, says 62-year-old Michael Ray Fullerton died after his kayak overturned late Sunday afternoon. She says a group of family members from a cruise ship rented kayaks to take onto the lake, at the foot of Mendenhall Glacier.
