Accidents in South Carolina



Authorities say there were two fatal accidents in the Midlands on Thursday evening. The first happened around 4pm Thursday on Hermitage Pond Road west of Camden. A 56-year-old man was driving a Chevy pick-up, he ran off the road and his car hit several trees. He was the only one in the vehicle. The second happened around 5:20 Thursday evening a mile south of Snelling. Two vehicles were involved, and one was a go-cart. The driver of the go-cart was 20-year-old Chastity Williams from Barnwell. The four-year-old passenger, Madison Simmons, died. Williams was taken to the hospital. The second vehicle was a Toyota van. The driver was 61-year-old Chester Gilbert, also from Barnwell. Both were traveling west on Moore Road. A fund has been set up for the family of Simmons. Any donations continue

An accident on Interstate 26 claimed the life an 11-year-old boy Saturday night. Around 6:45pm, a woman and her children were traveling together on I-26 when their vehicle struck the guardrail and then came to a stop in the fast lane of the interstate. Shortly after coming to rest, their vehicle was struck by another vehicle. The mother, in an attempt to get her children to safety, got her children and started for the side of the road, when a pickup truck struck the 11-year-old child, knocking him into the median. A 18-wheel truck then approached the accident scene and with nowhere to go took the median to avoid the cars. It is unclear at this time if the truck struck the child or not as it entered the median. Two people were injured, one seriously, after a two-car injury accident in Columbia, Missouri on Sunday that was apparently caused by a mechanical failure. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Myrick Denhartog, 62, was traveling westbound approaching Highway 63 in a 1997 Ford. As he approached the intersection, Denhartog’s car experienced an unexplained equipment malfunction and failed to stop at a stop sign before rolling onto Highway 63. Janet Jungermann, 50, was heading northbound in a 2006 Toyota and was unable to avoid a collision with Denhartog’s car. Ungermann was seriously injured and taken to University Hospital for emergency treatment. A passenger in Denhartog’s car, Dwayne Couch, 20, also suffered minor injuries and was treated at Boone Hospital. Denhartog was uninjured, according to the initial crash report continue
