Niles Avenue Bridge Expected to Reopen Friday

The contractor will be putting the finishing touches on the M-63 (Niles Avenue) bridge over I-94 in Saint Joseph Township, Berrien County, and the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is anticipating reopening the bridge to traffic by 5 p.m. Friday, July 20. “Our contractor, C. A. Hull, went above and beyond expectations, implementing a 24-hour work schedule to complete the project on time,” said Chris Jacobs, MDOT construction engineer at the Coloma Transportation Service Center. “The construction certainly had an impact on local businesses and residents, and we’re very thankful for everyone’s patience and understanding.” Bridge repairs completed include a new deck surface, railing and joints, as well as beam repairs and drainage improvements. Work will continue through Aug. 18 to finish beam repairs and bridge painting, which will require some lane closures on I-94. The contractor will keep two lanes open in each direction during daytime and evening hours. Only one lane may be open in each direction continue

The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will move forward with a long-anticipated project to build a new interchange at I-96 and Latson Road near Howell in Livingston County. The interchange project is the culmination of many years of collaboration between MDOT, the Livingston County Road Commission, Genoa Township, Livingston County Board of Commissioners, U.S. Representative Mike Rogers (R-Brighton) and other local partners to secure funding for the project, estimated to cost $32 million for construction. Local contribution for the project is $10.5 million, with the remaining $21.5 million covered with state and federal funding. Construction this fall involves relocating Beck Road, clearing and removing trees, relocating utilities, and closing the westbound I-96 rest area in anticipation of building demolition continue
