The Iowa Department of Transportation will hold a public information meeting Tuesday, Aug. 7, to discuss improvement alternatives for Iowa 934 (University Avenue) in Waterloo/Cedar Falls from Iowa 58 east to U.S. 63. This public information meeting will be conducted utilizing an open forum format. Iowa DOT, Cedar Falls, Waterloo and Iowa Northland Regional Council of Governments staff will be present to informally discuss the proposed improvement. No formal presentation will be made. The Iowa Department of Transportation is reporting a telecommunications disruption that is affecting services available through the Linn County Treasurer’s Office in Cedar Rapids. Technical problems are impacting motor vehicle-related transactions, including title issuance, new/renewal and changes to vehicle registrations, applications for personalized and other special license plates, issuance of junking certificates, etc. Residents of Linn County needing these services are urged to postpone their visit until notification is given that services have resumed. The State Department of Transportation (DOT) is advising motorists of nightly lane closures on H-1 Freeway in both directions beginning Sunday night, July 15, in the area between Pali Highway and Punahou Street. Work is expected to be complete by the first week of August, weather permitting. The H-1 Freeway Restriping Demonstration Project will restripe the existing freeway lanes westbound between Punahou Street and Pali Highway and eastbound between Ward Avenue and Keeaumoku Street. The three existing through lanes will be narrowed and an additional outside (right) lane will be created to act as a traffic merge and weaving lane.
