Alabama Crash Reports

A corrections officer at the Donaldson Correctional Facility in western Jefferson County was killed in a motorcycle crash in Graysville as he was on his way to work this morning, authorities said. Anthony James Tanniehill, 43, of Birmingham, was killed in the single-vehicle crash in the 4200 block of Brookville School Road, said deputy Jefferson County Coroner Bill Yates. Tanniehill was on his way to work at the corrections facility when the crash happened. He was driving a 2012 Suzuki GSX-R1000, he said. It appeared Tanniehill lost control of the motorcycle as he navigated a curve in the roadway, left the roadway, and then struck a fire hydrant, Yates said. Graysville’s fire department responded and pronounced Tanniehill dead at the scene at 6:08 a.m., he said. Alabama State Troopers, which are investigating the crash, reported the crash happened about 5:15 a.m. today. A motorist had found Tanniehill laying along the side of the road, Yates said. Tanniehill was wearing a helmet continue

The Birmingham Police department is mourning the loss of one of its own. Detective Steve Head was killed in a motorcycle crash last night. Alabama State Troopers say 54-year-old Head was riding his 2000 Harley Davidson motorcycle on Highway 25 in Vandiver about 5:30 p.m. Sunday when the accident happened. A friend who was riding with Officer Head told FOX6 News the bike missed a curve on the road. Head, who is from Odenville, started out in the East Precinct and recently transferred to be a detective in the robbery division. “Steve was a great officer, he was loved by all,” said David Crews, president of the local Fraternal Order of Police Lodge. “Everybody looked up to him as well as his expertise and professionalism. He was just a great all around friend, officer, and great man.” Crews says losing a fellow officer is hard, but especially so in this kind of accident continue

Willie Ulides Threatt, 33, was pronounced dead at the scene of an accident involving his motorcycle, which was traveling at a high rate of speed. The accident happened at 9:10 p.m. at 30th Street and Avenue E. and a friend riding on another motorcycle, alongside Threatt, said they were traveling northbound on Avenue E when Threatt lost control of his motorcycle striking a utility pole headon. The force of the impact threw him from the bike, which continued to travel about 40 more yards before hitting a parked van. Fortunately no one else was injured, but senseless acts like this often cause serious damage and injuries to innocent by standers. Motorcycle fatalities continue to raise in the state of Alabama as young cyclists ignore the high risks involved in operating their vehicle at a high rate of speed. Evidently the thrill of the moment out ways the level of danger to bodily injury and/or death continue
