Recent Road Accidents in Colorado



The Lakewood Police Department is investigating a fatal accident that occurred about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of West Bayaud Avenue & South Sheridan Boulevard. Police say alcohol was likely involved. Amalia P. Santana-Lopez, 45, was killed in the accident. Early investigation indicates that Santana-Lopez was driving southbound, when a northbound car, driven by Tracey Armijo, 37, crossed into the southbound lanes, and collided with Santana-Lopez. Both women were transported to an area hospital where Santana-Lopez was pronounced dead a short time later. The investigation will continue in an effort to determine the exact cause of the accident. Investigators are waiting for tests results but have indicated that alcohol may have been a factor. Armijo faces possible charges of DUI, vehicular homicide, careless driving resulting in death and driving with a suspended license. It seems like I’m writing about car accidents on I-25 in Colorado quite a lot lately. Over the last month or so, there has been a teen involved in a rollover car accident, a Sunday marked by multiple auto accidents, including a five-car pile up, and one more recently in which the passenger of a Honda Accord lost her life. Here vehicles, three hospitalizations, and one fatality. The three accident survivors all had severe personal injuries. John Fryer of the Longmont Times-Call reports on the state of those involved in the crash. According to reports, police say that alcohol does not seem to have been a factor in the crash. The strip of I-25 North of the Mead exit was closed for several hours while police investigated. Let’s hope that Barry Smith manages to survive his life threatening injuries; one fatality is already too many. Exert a little extra care when going down I-25. Don’t become a statistic. The Colorado State Patrol says the head-on collision happened at mile-marker 246 just north of Mead at 9:37 a.m. when a Kia Spectra and a Geo Metro were heading northbound on I-25.
