A fatal crash involving two tractor-trailers on Hwy. 401 Tuesday caused a large fire at Shannonville Road and resulted in the deaths of both drivers, according to Napanee OPP. Emergency crews responded to the scene of the accident around 3:30 p.m. The accident closed traffic in both directions due to thick smoke causing poor visibility for motorists. Township police say a Levittown man was behind the wheel of the car that struck a Mercedes Benz from behind early Saturday, spinning it out of control and ejecting both of its occupants, who died on impact. Lt. Henry Ward of the Falls Township Police Department said the Mercedes was traveling south on Route 13 around 2:07 a.m. on Saturday, when it was rear-ended near Penn Valley Road. The impact sent the Mercedes spinning and investigators say it went over the guard rail, at which point the male and female occupants were thrown from the car. The driver of the Mercedes lives in Bristol Boro, Ward said, and police are searching for his next-of-kin. The female passenger has not yet been identified, police said.
