Driver Tests School Bus Driver had No license

The new driver’s licence test may be a lot tougher but Shea-lee Phillips, a Year 12 student at Wanganui High School, can see the merit in it. The 16-year-old has a learner’s licence, which she got before the new licensing regime was introduced in February, and next month hopes to sit the test to gain her restricted licence. Since the new licensing regulations came into effect, pass rates have plummeted across the Wanganui- Manawatu region, one of three regions in the country to record such a decline. The new test has been designed to encourage learner drivers to clock up at least 120 hours of supervised practice before they sit the test. Shea-lee said she knows the test is tough but sees merit in that. The test is quite tough, in fact it’s really tough, but that’s good. It means when we do get our licence and we’re driving we’ll be more
A HUNTER school bus driver who was filmed by students talking on his phone while driving also threatened a student with violence and ejected a teenager 75 kilometers from home.
The Administrative Decisions Tribunal on Friday upheld the NSW Department of Transport’s decision to suspend and cancel the driver’s authority. Judicial member Peter Molony found the driver was not a fit and proper person to drive a school bus and had been responsible for nine transport breaches on the 90 minute daily route. The driver, who cannot be named to protect the identities of children involved, was found to have put a teen off the bus 75kilometres from home in 2010.‘‘This can reasonably be viewed as abandonment,’’ Mr Molony said. The driver told the tribunal he put the teen off the bus while he rang the police about an incident and the teen ran away. The tribunal also found the driver threatened a student with physical violence in 2010 during an incident when the student repeatedly opened a bus window and the driver more
News that the Government will look at “R” plates for drivers on restricted licences has been welcomed by advocates, with some saying the move is overdue. Associate Minister of Transport Simon Bridges said the Government would consider the option this year as part of a re-evaluation of licensing. Safety experts are looking across the ditch to see how Australian states administer their “R” equivalent, the provisional licence. Dr Dorothy Begg of the Otago University Injury Prevention Research Unit told Radio NZ that graduating from provisional or “P” plates was a major goal for Australian drivers.
Provisional licensing varies among Australian states, but all early provisional licences require drivers to display the plates, usually red on white more

39 children were injured in a school bus accident this morning. The accident happened on Highway 281 just south of Quincy, Washington. The area is an agricultural region, about 120 miles east of Seattle. According to the police report, the bus driver lost control and went off the road. He then over corrected, causing the bus to overturn on it’s passenger side. All 39 students on board suffered injuries, although most were minor scrapes, bloody noses, and bruises. Three children were in serious condition, though none of the injuries are life-threatening. One of the seriously injured was airlifted to nearby Moses Lake, and the other two were taken to a hospital in Ephrata. Two accidents caused two deaths and snarled traffic over an 8-mile stretch of Interstate 5 in southern Lewis County Thursday morning. A father and son from Vancouver died when their northbound pickup rear-ended a semi-truck on the highway near Winlock, the Washington State Patrol announced. The crash, reported shortly after 8 a.m., shut down the freeway northbound for about three hours and backed up traffic four miles. Drivers were detoured on State Route 505 and Jackson Highway. According to the WSP, a 1998 Toyota T-100 pickup driven by Anatoliy P. Kovalchuk, 43, was in the left lane and ran into the rear of a 2008 Kenworth semi-truck with a flatbed trailer driven by 44-year-old Truman J. Swinhart of Spokane. The 23-year-old driver suspected to be the cause of Friday’s four-car crash on Aurora was likely high on drugs at the time, according to the Seattle Police Department. Shortly after 11:05 a.m., the man crashed his Nissan into the back of a Honda while traffic was slowing or stopping in the northbound lane of Aurora near North 104th Street, according to police.
According to police, that impact caused the Honda to rear end a BMW, which rear ended a Ford truck, causing the closure of all northbound lanes on Aurora. While being evaluated at the scene, the driver of the Nissan was suspected to be under the influence of one or more drugs, according to police. He was taken to Northwest Hospital for treatment of a minor injury and booked into King County Jail on an outstanding warrant for probation more

Driving Under Influence

Judge Ian M. O’Flaherty of Fairfax County General District Court dismissed the charges against J. Randolph Babbitt, the former F.A.A. administrator, who resigned in December after he was arrested and accused of driving while intoxicated and driving the wrong way on a highway in Northern Virginia. Cutting the trial short on Thursday, Judge O’Flaherty said that the police officer who arrested Mr. Babbitt lacked reasonable suspicion for stopping him, Mr. Babbitt’s lawyer, Peter Greenspun, said Friday. Video from the officer’s dashboard camera that was played in court showed Mr. Babbitt crossing over double lines and into a northbound lane as he made a left turn, but not driving more

Florida polo mogul John Goodman, who notoriously adopted his girlfriend to shield his assets, has been sentenced to 16 years in prison for killing a 23-year-old motorist while driving drunk, according to news reports from West Palm Beach. Goodman, the 48-year-old, multimillionaire founder of the International Polo Club Palm Beach, was also fined $10,000. He was convicted in March of DUI manslaughter, vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of the February 2010 crash in Wellington, Fla., that killed Scott Wilson, an engineering student. The judge said that the sentence should not be a form of retribution and that he did not consider Goodman’s wealth. The maximum sentence for the charges was 30 years; the prosecutor asked for 20 more

A Judge in Fairfax, Va., Thursday dismissed the drunken driving case that had led J. Randolph Babbitt to resign as head of the Federal Aviation Administration. Babbitt, who had been head of the FAA since 2009, resigned in December after he was arrested in Fairfax. Fairfax City General District Court Judge Ian O’Flaherty dismissed the case after viewing a video of the traffic stop in which Babbitt was arrested and finding that a Fairfax City police officer had pulled Babbitt over on a “mere hunch,” The Washington Post reported. Babbitt’s lawyer, Peter Greenspun, had argued an initial sobriety test indicated Babbitt’s blood-alcohol level was 0.07, below Virginia’s legal limit of 0.08. A prosecutor said subsequent tests would show Babbitt was above the limit, but the judge threw the case out before those test results weremore

Every year, drivers in the Charlotte area have their licenses suspended and may not even know about it. And if a person if driving with a suspended license is pulled over for another offense, he or she can face a serious ticket or even be arrested. Eyewitness News discovered how it happens from a DMV error or a driver mistake. After getting a DWI about eight years ago, David Gaskin was required to put a lock on his ignition. He had to blow into it to drive. He said he never takes a minute behind the wheel for granted. But in February of 2011, he got a warning letter from the DMV. It said his license would be suspended because of what he says was a machine more
