Fatal Accident & Driver’s License Suspension

President Barack Obama’s new immigration program will mean some undocumented immigrants will be granted driver’s licenses — and some will not, depending on where they live. It’s the first sign that states will differ dramatically in their implementation of the President’s program. The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) told reporters Friday that it will grant driver’s licenses to undocumented immigrants who get an “employment authorization document” under Obama’s program. Days before, Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer signed an executive order directing state agencies to deny driver’s licenses and other public benefits — such as welfare and in-state tuition — to undocumented immigrants under the President’s program. Nebraska Gov. Dave Heineman issued a statement continue

Portland mayoral candidate Jefferson Smith has acknowledged a fifth driver’s license suspension, in the 1990s. “During college I did have a number of moving violations and a license suspension,” Smith wrote in an email to The Oregonian over the weekend. “I have never driven under the influence, and no one has been hurt while I have been behind the wheel. That said, I have done a terrifically bad job during multiple intervals of keeping a clean record and responding to tickets continue

On June 4, 2012 at approximately 11:10 p.m. officers responded to the area of Route 4 near Kingston Creek Road for a reported motor vehicle accident with injuries. Preliminary investigation reveals, a 2002 Harley Davidson motorcycle, operated by Michael Allan Heller, 37 of Lusby, Maryland with passenger Holly Hope Full wood, 32 of Lusby, Maryland was traveling south on Route 4 from Calvert County. The Harley Davidson motorcycle was being followed by a 2003 Ford Taurus passenger car, operated by Richard Kenneth Cornelison, 27 of Lusby, Maryland. The motorcycle approached a 2002 Jeep Cherokee, operated by Jacklyn Marie Cox, 21 of St. Leonard, Maryland with passenger, Katelyn Ruth Wilt, 21 of St. Leonard, Maryland in the vehicle. The Jeep Cherokee was also traveling south on Route 4. Mr. Heller applied brakes; however, still collided with the rear of the Jeep Cherokee. The collision ejected both occupants of the motorcycle. After being struck, the Jeep Cherokee skidded sideways. Mr. Cornelison swerved to avoid the motorcycle and collided with the Jeep Cherokee continue

Woods Agent Mark Steinberg Loses Driving License

Mark Steinberg, the agent for golfer Tiger Woods, had his license revoked when he was arraigned on charges related to a drunken driving arrest on June 2. Steinberg, 44, was arraigned yesterday on aggravated driving while intoxicated and DWI charges in Ardsley Village Justice Court in Ardsley, New York, Patricia Basini, the court clerk, said in a telephone interview. His license was revoked and he is due to appear back in court on Jan. 25. Steinberg had blood-alcohol content higher than 0.18, more than twice the legal limit of 0.08 in New York state, when he was one of 11 people arrested on June 2 by police at a sobriety checkpoint off the New York State Thruway, according to the Ardsley Police Department. Steinberg said in an e-mail that followed his arrest that “It’s a medical issue that I was dealing with. It’s not what you think.” Steinberg is being represented by more

The Nebraska Court of Appeals revoked the driver’s license of a man accused of drunken driving on Tuesday, siding with the Department of Motor Vehicles after a lower court ruled a department hearing officer unfairly revoked the license. Joshua Stone had a Nebraska driver’s license in February 2011 when police found him asleep behind the wheel of a running but parked car. Officers said Stone had an open beer in the car and appeared to be drunk, but Stone refused to be tested for intoxication. He was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving. A Sarpy County judge reversed the revocation, noting that the DMV report saying there was enough evidence to revoke Stone’s license was signed a day before Stone’s hearing. The judge said that led him to believe that the hearing officer decided the case before she heard any evidence. Nebraska Court of more

Jacksonville Jaguars first-round draft pick Justin Blackmon appeared in an Oklahoma courtroom Monday for the first time since his weekend arrest for suspicion of drunken driving. The former Oklahoma State star wide receiver’s attorney entered a not guilty plea for him to a misdemeanor count of driving under the influence. Blackmon was allowed to remain free on $1,000 bond. Police arrested Blackmon during a traffic stop in Stillwater early Sunday after a breath test allegedly showed his blood alcohol content to be three times the legal limit. Blackmon left the courtroom surrounded by friends. His attorney, Cheryl Ramsey, declined to comment. The Jaguars selected Blackmon fifth overall in April’s draft. A team spokesman said Sunday that the Jaguars were trying to learn more about the arrest more

Driver Tests School Bus Driver had No license

The new driver’s licence test may be a lot tougher but Shea-lee Phillips, a Year 12 student at Wanganui High School, can see the merit in it. The 16-year-old has a learner’s licence, which she got before the new licensing regime was introduced in February, and next month hopes to sit the test to gain her restricted licence. Since the new licensing regulations came into effect, pass rates have plummeted across the Wanganui- Manawatu region, one of three regions in the country to record such a decline. The new test has been designed to encourage learner drivers to clock up at least 120 hours of supervised practice before they sit the test. Shea-lee said she knows the test is tough but sees merit in that. The test is quite tough, in fact it’s really tough, but that’s good. It means when we do get our licence and we’re driving we’ll be more
A HUNTER school bus driver who was filmed by students talking on his phone while driving also threatened a student with violence and ejected a teenager 75 kilometers from home.
The Administrative Decisions Tribunal on Friday upheld the NSW Department of Transport’s decision to suspend and cancel the driver’s authority. Judicial member Peter Molony found the driver was not a fit and proper person to drive a school bus and had been responsible for nine transport breaches on the 90 minute daily route. The driver, who cannot be named to protect the identities of children involved, was found to have put a teen off the bus 75kilometres from home in 2010.‘‘This can reasonably be viewed as abandonment,’’ Mr Molony said. The driver told the tribunal he put the teen off the bus while he rang the police about an incident and the teen ran away. The tribunal also found the driver threatened a student with physical violence in 2010 during an incident when the student repeatedly opened a bus window and the driver more
News that the Government will look at “R” plates for drivers on restricted licences has been welcomed by advocates, with some saying the move is overdue. Associate Minister of Transport Simon Bridges said the Government would consider the option this year as part of a re-evaluation of licensing. Safety experts are looking across the ditch to see how Australian states administer their “R” equivalent, the provisional licence. Dr Dorothy Begg of the Otago University Injury Prevention Research Unit told Radio NZ that graduating from provisional or “P” plates was a major goal for Australian drivers.
Provisional licensing varies among Australian states, but all early provisional licences require drivers to display the plates, usually red on white more
